There’s a new haunt on Augusta Street, and we are hooked!  Located in the all fixed-up old Gregory’s Laundry & Cleaners space, The Burrow at Augusta has created quite the stir in these parts.  With a dual meaning to its name  “borough” or neighborhood of a large city and “burrow” or safe haven/home for a small animal  there’s brilliance in the concept!  From comfy, cavernous booths to an abundance of tables for two (or pull them together for a crowd – inside and out) to a single perch at the bar, there’s a place for just about anyone to burrow in!

These folks know a thing or two…

The Burrow might be the new kid on Augusta Street, but it has some serious culinary chops behind it.  Owner Josh Beeby has been around the block a few times with his other two über-popular establishments downtown, Trappe Door and Barley’s Taproom.   This time around, Beeby wanted a place that would attract the neighborhood with a casual, laid-back vibe and an inventive menu focusing on quality food and beverages…and that’s where we come in!  We tried a few for ya…

The Conejo Picante

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and when you wrap your hand round this cocktail, you will heartily agree. Shades of fall are abundant in this persimmoncolored libation featuring Milagro Reposado, carrot juice, cayenne and agave nectar.  Served in a crystal old fashioned glass, it’s easy on the eyes and good for ‘em too. But watch yourself…order too many andyou’ll be seeing double!

The Walking Dead…

This will be the best looking walking dead you’ve ever seen, and you will definitely not want to turn and head in another direction! The Burrow macerates pineapple with vinegar to make their own shrub, then adds their homemade orgeat (almond syrup), dehydrated mint, black tea, and their special rum blend to create this beauty. Take one sip and you’ll be wishing for the zombie acopalyse so you can order another round!

Fire it up

If it’s a savory bite you’re after, we’ve found the place!  There’s an abundance of delicious wood-fired dishes rolling out of The Burrow’s kitchen, thanks to the enormous open-fire grill. Roasted pork belly, steak, ribs and wings are sure to please the carnivores among us while the pescatarians can have a go at the poke, octopus and the whole fried fish.  And we are hearing thatred beans and rice (from a special family recipe) are already making a name for themselves…a must-try in our opinion!
