junior belle room makeover

One of our baby belles is no longer so little, and as a result, had been asking for a room with a little more pizazz and style befitting her “grown-up self”.

Now, this particular belle is very stylish and confident. She knows what she likes and she has good taste… and an even better eye. She knew she wanted Tiffany blue and coral, so the stage was set.

We began by pinning rooms with these color ways so we could get a feel for how the end result would look. Here are a couple of the pins:

We decided on Tiffany walls and coral accents. She was also insistent on having a hanging chair. Maybe she should be “determined” belle??

Next up was a way to fill up a large space above her bed. We framed a collection of shopping bags from stores that we love and covet. We even framed a flat Tiffany box for some added interest. This idea would be great in a dressing room or bathroom as well.

The touches of coral are on the headboard, bed skirt and pillows. And what southern belle wouldn’t have a monogram set about subtly (or not so subtly in this case)? Love the idea of making the monogram in coral for a proper “pop”.

Fresh and fun with a splash of whimsy. Just what the belle ordered!

Check out tomorrow’s post for some ideas to keep the room at least somewhat organized (you know this tidy-ness won’t last!!)

One more shot of the room before we bid you adieu.

Sweet dreams belles!!

Our dear belles…should we ever settle for just ho-hum? Why, never! Not us! When it comes to what we wear, what we eat, what we do…we want fabulous, don’t we? Well, here’s a little belle ringer for your belle maison. When you are stumped as to how to create some “wow” in a room, don’t fret, do fretwork!!

Here are some beautiful examples…

We have both been doing a little updating lately (actually…we are in a constant state of update…much to our husbands’ dismay), so when we found this touch of fabulous-ness, we just went all giddy with the possibilities!! Cut to order in some of the most amazing patterns, there is sure to be one that is perfect for any project you can conjure up in that pretty little head.

Some of our favorites from fretworksdesigns.com:

fretwork - Oxmoor

fretwork -Homewood

This pattern is Homewood

So, a few months ago, one of us realized it was time for a major overhaul of the master bedroom. Living in a nearly 90-year-old house, storage had become a touchy subject (i.e. – a certain husband might not be allowed to open the door to the wife’s “extra” closet because said closet, tiny as it may be, is so chock full of treasures, a purse and shoe avalanche could be set off merely by the low pitch of a male gasp…it’s take your life in your own hands dangerous!!).

Well, what’s a belle to do? Create as many places for storage as possible. In this case, we decided that some cleverly designed built-in cabinets could take the place of the typical bedside table/chest, and the cabinet doors could become a fabulous fret-work-of-art! The doors were built with mirrored insets…and the fretwork worked the rest of the magic.

The fretwork (pattern is Oxmoor) was painted to match the cabinetry and fit perfectly into the space on the doors thanks to some accurate measurements on our part and skillful craftsmanship from Fretworks Designs LLC. http://fretworksdesigns.com/

Now, our dears, how could we possibly stop at these cabinet doors with this fab treatment? Just imagine the doors, walls, headboards, chests, and countless other ho-hum spaces that stand to benefit! Heads spinning and belles ringing!!

We have to admit that we are a little like magpies, constantly drawn to anything shiny. So, it stands to reason that lacquer would become one of our latest obsessions.

Our homes are ever-changing works in progress (hey, a belle is what she is!)…and walls are a virtual canvas that can add elegance, intimacy, sophistication, and interest to a room. Highly lacquered walls are beyond chic and oh, so shiny!! In a den, dining room, bathroom or living room, this wall treatment is On Another Level!!!

There is a little work involved…somewhat time consuming even. But the end result??? To die for!!

Here are a few examples that sent us over the edge.

I mean, c’ mon, don’t you just want to wrap yourself in it?

Or feel like you are living inside a Tiffany’s box?

And this yummy room…the color… And don’t get us started on fret work….

And for all you timid belles out there who just want to tiptoe into this scrumptious pool of glossiness…. How about just the ceiling? Divine

And the piece de resistance …
Our humble little ole selves gently suggested to a friend that her dining room was the perfect spot to try out this reflective finish….here’s how it turned out. And the pictures don’t even begin to do it justice!!

Mind you, this is a work in progress. New walls and new carpeting, complete. Upholstery and sconces, etc, still to come. We will be sure to keep you posted as this belle room unfolds!!

We love laquered walls and hope you might be feeling a bit magpie-ish yourselves 😉 Ding, ding!!

banquettes…they aren’t just for kitchens anymore!!

We have been obsessing just a titch about banquettes. But not your typical kitchen, diner-style seating. To that we say nay nay!! We are drooling over that cozy nook, the intimate corner, the welcoming area to set a spell, read a book, have a chat or toast a friend.

Here are a few examples that got our hearts racing and motivated us to execute the idea in one of our living rooms.

As we have already proclaimed, we are so smitten with the whole banquette fantasy that we couldn’t wait to make it a reality.

We found a corner in one our very own living rooms and with a little tweaking (there we go again!!), our dream came true. We moved a chest and a floor lamp, and ordered the banquette pieces from Ballard Design. We picked the Coventry style. Once it arrived, we added a couple of pillows we had on hand and ordered some velvet to make the persimmon-colored ones. Pulled an old coffee table from the attic, added a couple of coffee table books and a pretty plant and voila!!!

Presenting what we think turned out pretty darn well. How do y’all think we did??
