We’ve been cocktailin’ again…(no shock there). The December/holiday issue of TALK Greenville is on stands now. We paid a visit to our favorite neighborhood haunt…Augusta Grill…and shared our (once again) delightful experience. Read on…

from augustagrill.com

Let’s face it…in the hustle and bustle of the holidays (and any time of year, really), “sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came”. Sound familiar? That little ditty is a perfect fit for our cocktailin’ experience this month. There are neighborhood bars and restaurants all around…and they are to be celebrated. Having a place that’s familiar, friendly, and feels like home just can’t be beat. That place for us is Augusta Grill…and if you’re a “regular”, you know what we are talking about!

Our first suggested drink…the Blueberry Cosmo

We typically grab a seat and order “the regular”, but we have had friends talking about the “Blueberry Cosmo” for quite a while. One of us is a cosmo girl from way back, so this really piqued our interest. We gave it a try and were very impressed! It’s your classic cosmo (triple sec and cranberry included) with the twist of Blueberry Stoli, giving it a fresh, fruity finish. Brilliant!

For the finishing touch…The House Coffee

Our second suggestion…and without a doubt a fan favorite…is the “House Coffee”. It’s the perfect beverage to shake off that shiver. It’s also our favorite liquid dessert…ending yet another consistently wonderful meal. The perfect blend of espresso, Baileys and whipped cream, this one is nothing fancy but the comfort level is beyond words.

And as for the menu…one star (in our book) is the Wednesday night “special”…

from augustagrill.com

Wednesday night at Augusta Grill is an iconic experience! “Crabcake night” draws a crowd, and for good reason. Their mound of lump crabmeat, held together with what seems to be simply more crabmeat, is not to be missed. Word to the wise…go early to snag a table, or do what we do and head over there on the later side. Buddy never seems to run out of this culinary dream!

And an idea for ringin’ in the New Year with friends…

For those of you planning ahead for the end of the month, Augusta Grill is always a great option for New Year’s Eve.  The food will be delicious, the atmosphere warm and inviting, the drinks will be spot on…and chances are, the table next to you will be full of familiar faces. It’s like celebrating at your home away from home!

Loyal to the classics with no need to rely on trendy twists, fancy names, or learning the art of mixology, there is something refreshing about the good, old-fashioned bartenders at AG. You name it, they can make it…and they’ll remember you (and your cocktail) on your next visit.  We love that!

Sharing our latest Talk Magazine article…

With summer in full swing, we are always looking for a cool, refreshing beverage.  Turns out to be quite convenient that we have this drinkin’ gig, giving us good reason to belly up to some bars to wet our whistles!  This month, we wanted to share our favorite ways to beat that summer heat while keeping ourselves properly hydrated…if you know what we mean.  We spent an evening under the stars and lights, dining al fresco at Soby’s…and sampling the creative concoctions Ashley (the knowledgeable bar manager) whips up in her “office”.

Although you might be tempted to head inside to the air conditioning, we challenge you to take a table outside. We promise it doesn’t take too long for the sun to slip behind the buildings across the street…leaving you with a cool (maybe) breeze and superb people-watching.

Our first drink of choice…the Basil Bulleit. Fragrant from the basil and boozy with bourbon, this is a drink to sip and savor. Bonus points…it’s pretty enough for the ladies, yet plenty jaunty for the gents. This drink makes you want to while away the hours in comfort…and maybe ponder having another as you watch the main street world go by.

Our next drink was Ashley’s acclaimed mule with a kick…the New South Mandrin Mule. We all deserve to kick up our heels now and then! A mason jar chock-full of flavors…fresh lime, and ginger with a finisher of elderflower…this one might be a little prissy-looking for the boys. But, if they’re man enough to hold it, they’ll be glad they did!

Of course, Soby’s has more to offer than just these superb cocktails! Dinner is always something special, and they are quite generous with their secrets all around. In fact, a brand new cookbook hit stores just last month!

Knowing that we all tend to feel like wilting lilies these days, Soby’s even has creative refreshers for the teetotalers among you with their selection of mocktails (so the kids can enjoy a little something special…or your DD can not feel so left out). Brilliant! And, speaking of wilting lilies…dress for the heat, but remember that you will see and be seen. Spiff it up a bit…in a casual way…and enjoy!

American Grocery Greenville, cocktails, drinkin' on the job, Talk Magazine

The latest issue of Talk magazine has hit the stands (with its 10th anniversary edition, no less), and we have another informative, “boozy” feature, “Stepping Out for Valentine’s Day”, amidst the glossy pages.  This time, we highlight our cocktailing stop at Greenville’s American Grocery…proving that cocktails and groceries mix quite well.

Our drink choices: the scandalously-named “French Tickler” (pictured) and the “Man About Town.” The former is a hearty mix of Bulleit rye, ginger, and bitters…a bit like a heart-warming embrace in a glass. The latter is a concoction of local Six &Twenty Old Money whiskey, cinnamon-black tea, Doulin Rouge, and root beer bitters…perfect for the lady who wants a strong “man” who doesn’t talk back or the gent who considers himself worthy of the title.

Kirk, the master mixologist, is happy to create a custom cocktail using his house-made bitters…cocktail couture at its best!! We encourage you drop in and put him to the test.

And…just for kicks…here is a cute little article from the January issue of Food & Wine. We are always intrigued by the creative names of some of our favorite cocktails. This article puts them to you “emoji-style”. See if you can decipher them…

Well…we have made no secret of the fact that we like a glass of bubbly…an interesting cocktail…a refreshing beverage here and there. So when we were approached with a belle-worthy new gig which would allow us to do a monthly search of the greatest cocktails at our local establishments, we (very gracefully in heels) jumped at the chance!

Our new assignment is with Talk magazine…a monthly go-to publication featuring the happenings in and around our dear Greenville.

The January issue is out and we are excited to share…

IMG_2080.JPG
Two Drink Minimum is our first article…we feature the Moscow Mule and the St. Germaine cocktail from Breakwater Restaurant & Bar on Main Street in Greenville. We encourage you to give them a try yourselves…and be ready for something new every month.

Cheers!
