We are going to fess up…we have a Nonie-belle (aka: just about the hippest mom/grand-mom we’ve ever known…not that we are biased or anything). She is the queen originator of a lot of our most favorite recipes and this curry dip is one of them. We have never made this dip when it wasn’t met with RAVE REVIEWS! Now, we have to thank our lucky stars that Nonie-belle is always happy to share her kitchen secrets…clearly the mark of a true belle. (She is also quite partial to accolades and compliments…so we always give her props…keeps us all happy…just sayin’).
This is super-easy to make, but really is best if made the day before…you know, so the flavors can marry. Try to plan ahead just this once, belles. You’ll be glad you did!
CURRY DIP
1 cup mayonnaise
1 small onion grated
2 tsp curry powder (feel free to make them generous teaspoons)
2 tsp tarragon vinegar
1 tsp dried thyme
1/4 tsp each salt, pepper, paprika and dried parsley
2 tsp chili sauce (Heinz, not oriental or spicy)
Combine above ingredients and refrigerate overnight (remember, so they can marry-up)
We like to serve blanched asparagus alongside.
Thank you, Nonie, for being such a wealth of divine belle-iciousness!!

With all of those delicious summer vegetables still in full bloom, a belle needs to know how to get them to the table in a belle-icious snap. Sometimes the simplest preparation is the best, so we thought it might be wise to check up on our (and your) blanching skills.
Blanching (sometimes called par-boiling) is super simple and yields fresh, crisp, beautifully-colored veggies…and, bonus, blanched veggies will keep their color and texture (and belle-iciousness) in the fridge for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months! So…when October rolls around, you can have a little taste of summer to remind you of the lazy days.
THE EASY DIRECTIONS:
– wash and trim veggies
– fill a bowl with ice and water
– bring a large pot of water to a boil
– add kosher salt until the water is about as salty as the Atlantic…or Pacific
– boil the veggies until they are bright green (1-2 minutes will do)
– using a slotted spoon or tongs, move veggies to the ice bath
(The ice bath stops the cooking and makes them super crisp)
– once cooled completely, drain and pat dry
There you have it, belles…enjoy as a healthy, fresh meal accompaniment or as crudités…now and later!
you’re welcome

Sally Hansen that is…
Ever wish you had the flawless legs of your youth? No bruises or scars (or if you had them back then, they just looked better on the younger, collagen-enhanced skin) and certainly no discoloration from…we hate to say it…AGE! Well, we belles have learned how to fake perfection in a pinch!
We discovered Sally Hansen’s “airbrush legs” back when it was a spray. And even though it was a bit tricky to apply, the results were impressive enough to keep us intrigued. So…when we found it in the creme formula, we got all giddy! This stuff is a perfect-leg miracle in a bottle! It goes on easily, dries quickly, and doesn’t (easily) rub off on clothing or furniture. (Just try not to roll around on someone’s white couch until you have tried it on yourself…just a wee disclaimer).
Some examples…

Note the top, ghostly leg…then check out the Sally-enhanced one on the bottom!
And about those bruises (yes…even belles can have slight imperfections)…

Tennis ball to the shin perhaps?
So…we highly suggest you at least give it a try the next time you have to do the whole dress-up-like-a-lady kind of thing (dress…heels…the whole nine yards). You…and your legs…will look like a million bucks!! You might just decide you want to fake perfection on a daily basis…just sayin’.
You’re welcome, belles. Join us in our happy dance…perfect legs and all!!

Let’s all agree that the legs just look better in heels…and sometimes we are willing to pay the price for beauty with tender tootsies and sore soles….but thanks to the kitten heel trend, we don’t need to weep for beauty anymore!!
We can be practical and stylish with gazelle-like gams without getting cranky….and no one wants to cross a cranky belle, just sayin’! So without further ado, let us introduce you to the Dulci kitten heel from j Crew

at $345, they are a bit of an investment…but the price-per-wear will make them totally worth it (a belle can always justify a shoe purchase…just sayin’)!
But…if the fall shoe budget doesn’t quite include this wild little kitten, the Dulci comes in a couple of other belle-worthy options…
How about the “bronzed brown”…
or the “deep violet”…

at a more palatable $198, these little kitties just might be calling your name!!
Time for some decision-making, belles!

Intermix, J Brand, Jeans, novelty denim, Paige Denim, prints, saks, Savvy Greenville
We belles appreciate and adore that denim has become fully embraced as a uniform for day, night and everything in between. We love the skinnies, the cropped, the high-waisted, the boyfriend, the straight leg and the bell (of course). We swoon over dark wash, light wash, coated, colored and printed.
Thank you, world, for making denim a fun, fashionable workhorse for our wardrobes!!
This season’s trend toward the novelty jean has us whistling Dixie!! We are smitten with two in particular…so much so that we had to buy both! We are confident that they are going to be in continuous rotation for the foreseeable future.
First, the Paige Hoxton indigo pinstripe. A dark wash with a higher-waist, it makes bending over a non-issue! This denim can be sporty-casual with a tee or tank, but can easily be stepped up a notch with a leather jacket or blazer and some heels…or throw in a pop of color…be creative, belles!
Available online from Paige or from one of our favorite local retailers, Savvy, here.
James jeans is always a go-to denim for us and they never disappoint. We just fell out over these camouflage jeans!! Again, dress them up or down and even play around with pattern…they look really cute with a black and white striped top! Also available at Savvy as well as online from James Jeans.
They are called the “espionage”…the name alone makes us want them!!
A couple of other fun options we are debating are the 7 for all mankind striped jean at Saks Fifth Avenue…
and the j brand kaleidoscope at Intermix…
Fun, fashionable, denim in so many prints…what a novel idea!!

Bookshelves are an art form really…an opportunity to let your creative juices flow, display your taste in literature and your particular collections; but they can be a task so overwhelming that you are paralyzed into ignoring them or you pull a Scarlett…”after all, tomorrow is another day”.
We are here to tell you it is time to face your fears, harness your hesitation and jump right into the deep end! Come on in….the water’s fine! Once you get started, it can be very therapeutic and ultimately gratifying.
We thought we’d give y’all a little inspiration from some belle homes in our neck of the woods.
The above photo shows a bookcase that is in a bedroom. Notice the use of all white books to keep everything serene, family photos lend personality and small collections add warmth. By stacking books and layering the objects and pictures, you add interest. Having things that mean something to you is a great way to fill those bookshelves that are in the more private areas of your home.
Above are living room bookshelves. Again, mixing objects, collections and artwork in with the books adds character. We love the idea of adding small paintings and framed pieces into your bookshelf, it has a way of drawing you in…beckoning you to take a closer look. The red in the books is balanced on various shelves . Laying the books on their side is a great way of using them as platforms to display. The mercury glass adds a nice contrast to the leather of books…a little play with texture…shiny and reflective vs. matte and rich. Also notice that you can see the way the collection of horse artifacts runs throughout the shelves.
And books don’t have to be the main attraction as only a few are used in this photo. The focus is really on the collections. They even have a way of distracting from the fact that there is an ancient, no longer used stereo that has yet to be removed…just throwing that subtle hint out there, dear belle…you know who you are!!!
A collection of sliver stirrup cups and jiggers makes a beautiful display and the gathering of pitchers might remind you to use them for drinks or flowers instead of having them hidden away in some storage cabinet. So pull out those pieces you have tucked away and enjoy them…for their beauty and their usefulness.
Open bookshelves in a kitchen don’t have to be boring…forget about the expected cookbooks. Why not display your prettier china? What’s the point of having it if you don’t use it, right?
We belles are big fans of neutrals, but what we love most of all is accessorizing with color. We follow this formula when we dress and when we decorate. Adding this pop of green to the kitchen sure cheers up the joint and is still crisp and clean. This collection of majolica, and lettuce wear brightens up the kitchen and your day.
A whole wall of bookcases can be really intimidating, and this set of bookshelves was, admittedly, daunting. But using the same devil-may-care attitude and just remembering to balance color, books, pictures and objects, it just becomes like the collages we all did in grade school. In this instance, taking one shelf at a time helped. We think it turned out pretty well and creates an element of warmth and character to the den.
This last photo is another bedroom bookshelf. The majority of the books are fashion or home decor books. The pink majolica softens the hard line of the shelves and the books. Again, an effort was made to keep the effect calm and serene. After all, your bedroom should be an oasis. But y’all knew that already….
Anyway, we hope that these photos and ideas get you motivated to give your bookshelves a shot. Please don’t keep “shelving” the task for later. Give it a go. And if you have any tips or tricks of your own, please share.
We belle-ieve you can do it!!
