amazon, Bergdorf Goodman, Cartier, gifts, Giles & Brother, gloves, goop, jewelry, MoMA, personalization, rosemary, Sur la table, topiaries, travel, umbrella

For this edition of our gift-giving suggestions, we thought we might share some very useful, yet budget-friendly (all under $50!), options. We are regular “goop” readers and saw a couple of these on her gift ideas post…but we went digging a bit further, keeping prices low and practicality paramount. Hint to either of our mothers, sisters, children…(cough, cough) we kinda like this stuff. Might we find one or two in a stocking or under our trees?? Just sayin’.

From the MoMA Store…

IMG_1710.JPG
The 4-in-1 travel adaptor…$25. Good for the travelin’ belle or fella

And more from the MoMA store…
Nothin’ but blue skies…

IMG_1711.JPG
The Blue Sky Umbrella… What belle wouldn’t like this overhead on a rainy (or snowy) winter day?? Just $48…or get the collapsible version for $40.

Operate that “rectangle” in the cold…

IMG_1712.JPG
Keep the fingers warm and in control with these artsy Touchscreen Gloves. A budget-friendly $28…and they come in a man-friendly black and gray, as well!

For the blogger…hint, hint…cough, cough…

IMG_1713.JPG
This A-Fold iPad Stand makes an awful lot of sense. Come on…it’s only $48!

For the cook…from Sur la table…

IMG_1714.JPG
This rosemary tree wrapped in burlap would make a delightful delivery! Can be used as part of the holiday decor, but will be used and appreciated well after the tinsel has been cleared! This one will only set you back by $29.95. (And for a local, do-it-yourself delivery…we’ve seen some great rosemary topiaries at Home Depot. Just do a bit of creative wrapping and you’re all set!)

Here’s one that goes a wee bit over budget…$55…but we just had to share:

IMG_1715-1.JPG
From Bergdorf Goodman, the Giles & Brother Personalized Skinny Railroad Spike Bracelet is edgy and stackable…so the entire family can be commemorated! (By the way…it’s a bit reminiscent of this little beauty from Cartier…only $7545 less!)

For the younger set…

IMG_1717.JPG
This Outside the Lines coloring book should keep ’em busy for a bit. Order on Amazon for just $18 or less…and they have other suggestions as well.

Or maybe a book or two…

IMG_1718.JPG
The Open Ocean is interesting and educational…you might even find yourself curled up with it! From authors Pittau and Gervais who have another couple of books in their repertoire…maybe you should buy a set!

So there you have it, belles…lots of perfectly practical, thoroughly thoughtful options for your gift-giving pleasure.

Ho, Ho, Ho!

books, Lena Dunham, Not That Kind of Girl, read

We’ve noticed lots of buzz lately around Lena Dunham’s book,

IMG_1494-0.JPG
“Not That Kind of Girl”
(available at amazon)…and for good reason!

Dunham tells it like it is…cringe-inducing details and all…to explain how the embarrassing, anxiety-producing things that have happened to her have actually helped lead to her success – inspiring belles young and old to stand up, brush off, and carry on.

A really, really good read, belles!

got gratitude?

gratitude, Oprah, Thanksgiving, Uncommon Goods

We belles try to be constantly grateful for all of our “blessins”…but days can get so crazy-busy, we might overlook one or two. So…we thought we would remind ourselves (and you) on this day of thanks to take a break every day to be grateful. Years ago, Oprah started writing down five things that she was grateful for at the end of every day. They were often simple little things like someone holding a door for her…but knowing that she needed to collect 5 things by the end of the day made her really think about it! A very worthwhile activity, don’t ya think?

Another great/grateful idea we ran across…these cards from Uncommon Goods called A Year of Gratitude

IMG_1720.JPG
They come in a set of 52…one for every week of the year. The idea? Take time once a week to write a note to someone expressing your gratitude. It just might become contagious!!

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!

manly gifts…takin’ care of the fellas on that list

gifts, men, paperweights, Pottery Barn, ShaveTech, Uncommon Goods, Watson Kennedy

We belles are quite thankful for all of our family and friends. This time of year just makes us sit back and say, “Wow…how’d I get so lucky?” In fact, all of this thankfulness has us in the mood for some gift-giving (hmmm…convenient as “you-know-what” is just a few short weeks away!). So…we thought we’d share some more gift ideas with you…focusing on the fellas.

(BTW…we’ve been told that the masses will be doing quite a bit of shopping online as the turkey bakes and the Macy’s balloons float across the TV screen…these ideas might help you beat ’em to the “click”)…

We’ve searched high and low to bring you some ideas that will surely take care of at least a couple of ’em. Grab your list, belles…let’s get busy!

First, a few items from Watson Kennedy, “purveyors of fine goods”…

For the wine-drinker…or the nice man who happily corks bottle after bottle for others (ahem…us)…how about this super-cool and retro French Zig-Zag Corkscrew:
IMG_1659

And you might pair the corkscrew with these Golf Ball Wine Stoppers
IMG_1658

Or along those same lines, how about a Tennis Handle Bottle Opener
IMG_1656
(Bonus…they have an option for the golfer as well!)

And for a classic little stocking-stuffer…
IMG_1657-0
How about these Kent Handmade Combs. So retro…and only $12!

Moving along…

Having a man-child who seems to never have time to shave, one belle thought this was the bee’s knees…

IMG_1655
This portable shaver from ShaveTech can be charged and used in the car…just right for the man on-the-go…or the college fella who says he “just never has time, Mom”. No excuses now, son.

Next, we all know our men cherish their “best friends”, so why not give them something to acknowledge that bond…

IMG_1661.JPG
…with a Dog Blueprint from Uncommon Goods. From the Airedale Terrier to the Wire-haired Dachshund, they have almost every breed you can imagine! (Side-note…they also have ballpark blueprints for the baseball fan)

Also from Uncommon Goods…

IMG_1664.PNG
This Sailcloth Toiletry Bag adds a bit of nautical style to the travelin’ man.

And what man doesn’t need a bit of wisdom?

IMG_1666.PNG

IMG_1667.PNG
These paper weights showcasing the infinite wisdom of Uncle Albert are an excellent choice! (And just $36)

For the James Bond wannabe…

IMG_1668.PNG
These Wifi and USB cufflinks should do the trick. And you get to be a Bond girl…holla!!

Just a couple more, belles. These are from Pottery Barn…go figure!

How about this Saddle Leather eyeglass case

IMG_1669.JPG

Or perhaps this iPhone case/wallet

IMG_1670.JPG
At last check…on sale for $9 with free shipping and monogramming. A steal!!

Of course…we could go on ‘n on, but the cookin’ and shoppin’ aren’t going to do themselves. Gotta get busy! Happy Thanksgiving, belles!!

belles are bubbling over…a celebratory friday friend-1-1

champagne, la Marca, Mirabelle, prosecco, Schramsberg, Total Wine

Now that the holidays are upon us, we thought it was time to share one of our favorite ways to celebrate any occasion…especially occasions with dear family and friends.

Belles are thankful for bubbles..and there are no better bubbles than champagne. We love the classics (orange label anyone?), but we don’t always want to spend our bankroll on it. We have found two wonderful champagnes that won’t break the bank. What better reason to pop a cork than that?! With these two brands, everyday can be a day to celebrate.

The first new fave is actually a sparkling wine. One of our best belle friends and fellow bubbly fan found this delightful bottle. La Marca is a fresh, slightly fruity bubbly. If you prefer a drier finish, wait for the next one up. But for a light, crisp glass at a great price ($12.99) and a beautiful bottle to boot, this one is belle-worthy. We can find this at our local grocery stores and Total Wine. We can’t thank Lisa enough for sharing her find, so we toast her with a southern sigh of gratitude!

20140726-140104-50464455.jpg

Our second find was actually found on a trip to the wine country when a small bevy of belles toured the Schramsberg Vineyard. Mirabelle (I mean really…we couldn’t possibly resist!!) is a wonderful dry champagne that comes in both brut and rose. We love it…a lot! It’s widely available, and at $21.99 we are guilt-free when sipping.

20140726-140851-50931561.jpg

20140726-140852-50932247.jpg

Bubbly makes belles creative, so we thought going as champagne for our next costume fete might not be a bad idea. In fact, it might be an excuse to throw a costume party!!

So, dear belles, we are raising a glass to you all…be a belle and grab some to share!

goodness gracious…that’s a helluva granola…

13 Thursday Nov 2014

Bon Appétit, breakfast, granola, snacks

Now, we are all about being healthy, eating right, exercising and blah, blah, blah. We also believe in bacon, champagne and lazing around on a rainy afternoon. It’s called balance. Everything in moderation…except for shoes…and jewelry…and pocketbooks…but back to the business at hand.

We are going a bit healthy today (don’t fret now, somethin’ sinful will be along soon enough). This recipe is good for you nutritionally, financially and tastefully…and comes just in time to help the belles out there who might be entertaining house guests over the next few weeks! Aren’t we thoughtful??

A clever, culinary belle-friend of ours made this for our girls’ varsity tennis team a few weeks ago, and the parents were as intent on digging in greedily as the players. It has become one the most requested recipes in her repertoire and we are so thankful she is a proper belle who is happy to share.

This makes a generous amount…but don’t bother reducing it as you will go through it before you can whistle Dixie.

Debi’s Irresistible Granola

20140905-090442-32682740.jpg

4 tablespoons walnut oil, divided
3/4 c brown sugar (we’ve tried Splenda blend brown sugar with good results)
1/4 cup egg whites (from about two large eggs)
1/2 teaspoon (scant) coarse kosher salt
3 cups organic old fashioned oats (we use Quaker Oats)
1/2 cup steel cut oats (we added this for extra crunch)
I/2 cup pecan pieces
1/2 cup almond slices
1/4 cup honey

Optional additions and suggestions:
– any combination of nuts you like (almonds, pecans , walnuts etc)
– 1/2 cup flax seed or Qia seeds
– 1/2 cup coconut, shredded

We prefer the plain version, but feel free to experiment!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Brush heavy, large, rimmed baking sheet with 2 tablespoons oil. Whisk 2 tablespoons oil, sugar, egg whites, and salt in large bowl. Add oats, nuts, and flax seed if using; toss well.

Spread mixture evenly onto prepared pan. Bake 10 minutes. Using metal spatula, stir granola. Bake 10 minutes longer. Stir again. Drizzle with honey. Bake until golden brown about 8-10 minutes longer. Stir to loosen. Transfer to clean baking sheet to cool completely. Store in airtight container.

Debi adapted and tweaked the recipe from Bon Appétit…with great success we must say!

Great to have on-hand for Holiday guests as a quick breakfast…but you will want to keep it around even after the holidays for busy mornings, lunch on-the-go, or an after-school snack you don’t mind them eating!

Time to get your granola on!!!

amazon, Exofab, gifts, iphone, organization, tech, This Is Ground

We must admit, most gifts that we give are actually items that we covet ourselves…that’s just how we belles roll. So…as we shop for gifts, we love finding the perfect reasonably-priced items so that we can do the one for you, one for me thing without the guilt!

Here are a couple of things in the tech arena that fit the bill!

First…the “Cord Taco Supreme 5-pack” from This Is Ground. Don’t know about you, but messy cords all over the place make us a bit testy…just sayin’.

IMG_1539.JPG
These little babies keep the mess to a minimum…and you won’t believe how many colors they offer!! We love this metallic gold, but the choice is yours!

Next, a cool spin on the phone cover…

IMG_1540.PNG
the stick-on gel cover from Exofab. Again, color options galore…so there’s one to suit everyone on your list (including yourself…of course). Only drawback…they don’t have covers for the iPhone 6 which just might be on someone’s wish list. Exofab…please work on that soon!

And speaking of the “6”…check out this sleek pebbled leather folio in cayenne/gunmetal from ShopBop

IMG_1544.PNG

IMG_1545.PNG
Just $50 and also available in other colors!

For the younger (or not so) set…how about these cute home-button covers.
From Amazon, here is just a small sample of the whopping 216 buttons in the package!!!

IMG_1547.PNG.
These should last a while!

And finally…who knew we even needed this??

IMG_1546.JPG
It’s a dust plug for your earphone jack! It’s just $1.82 on Amazon…so, what the heck!! Get one for ALL the princess belles in your life!!

We’ll keep shoppin’ and sharin’. Gift-givin’ season is right around the corner!’

little tastes of the luxe life…belle gift ideas to…die…for!

Chanel, gifts, Hermés, luxe

We know…you have just barely had time to clear the jack-o-lanterns and fake spider webs from the front stoop and are already feeling the Christmas rush settling in. Happens to the best of us, belles. But never fear…we have some gift ideas to share over the next few weeks that should help take care of even the trickiest recipient!

To get us started…how about something special for that discerning, somewhat difficult-to-buy-for person on your “list”? We have found some rather special little über-designer items that give a taste of the luxe life without breaking the bank…holla!

First up:
Vintage hand-bound Hermès books from Waiting on Martha…

IMG_1473.JPG
They also have Chanel!

And speaking of Chanel…

What belle wouldn’t love Chanel Le Coton cotton squares…a luxe way to remove makeup after a long day?

IMG_1477.JPG

Or how about a bit of luxury in the bath or shower with the scent named after Miss Chanel herself…Coco Mademoiselle Foam Bath

IMG_1478.JPG
Of course…Chanel can even make a plastic bottle of bath foam look über-chic!

Back to Hermès…

Check out these soaps from the Hermès Le Bain Collection

IMG_1479.JPG
You won’t even need to (or want to) wrap that iconic orange box!!

…and how about these notebooks covered in silk twill…shown here in the Cavalcadour and Brazil motifs?

IMG_1508.PNG (as seen in the Nov 14 Architectural Digest)
Now THAT’S jottin’ things down in Hermès style!

So there you have it, belles…we’ve gotten you started on your quest for that special little something. We will be back with more ideas soon…because that’s what belles do!!
