After the ball, our feet deserve a little pampering slipper…from Saks

A Jaffe, bags, bracelets, budhagirl, Christmas, Coordinates Collection, Croghan's Jewel Box, face brush, faux fur, fur, gifts, jewelry, Lenora Dame, Longchamp, makeup brush, Mark and Graham, necklaces, nordstrom, PJ Luxe, purse, rings, shopbop, Shrimps, socks, Stila, Tory Burch

It’s coming…ready or not!  Christmas is just a few short weeks away, and those gifts aren’t going to buy themselves!  We figured we would brainstorm some kick-ass ideas for you…’cause that’s what belles are for…

We have some ideas for him, her, the techies, the hostess…and we will share them all this week as we prepare to enter the “vortex”.  First up:

Some ideas for her…

Ya know how we are always saying, “remember who you are and where you came from”??  These will help with that:

From A. Jaffe:

the 14k gold version

Choose any location in the world and A. Jaffe will engrave the map and place a diamond where “X marks the spot” for where her heart is (or should be)…(there’s a less expensive sterling version as well)

And from Coordinates Collection (above…we’ve told y’all about these before) use the coordinates of that special place to create a piece that will be all hers

For a comfy, daily-wear bauble, from Mark and Graham, this Ariel Gordon Semi-precious Stone Necklace will be sure to please

How about polishing up that  ponytail ? Comes in gold or silver . A great stocking stuffer from Nordstrom.

And from BuDhaGirl…we are still big fans of these all-weather bangles…for a bit of mindful glamour!

From our fave belle-friend-owned jewelry store, Croghans, in Charleston, this crowning glory of a ring (above) is perfect for the princess or regal matriarch.

From Nordstrom she will love these Stila “sweet kisses”…an excellent stocking stuffer!

in “pebble”

For the travelin’ belle, Longchamp’s Le Pliage (also available at Nordstrom) is a classic that she will surely love!

and this lux face brush from Tory Burch will be treasured

The Lenora Dame Polar Bear or Orange Puff bag charms from Shopbop will add some whimsy to her adventures

From Shopbop, the Shrimps “Abatha” faux fur coat will keep her warm

And the feet stay warm with these Foxy Sox (also from Shopbop)

Stay tuned…there’s more to come!

belles are cheesy…warning included…

appetizer, charcuterie, cheese, cheese addiction, refinery 29

We love cheese…we admit we are addicted..after we read this, now we understand why…

But everything in moderation…life is too short not to enjoy!

We recently helped host a little fete and our job was the charcuterie platter. What a great assignment/exercise!  We enjoyed every moment of putting it together. We thought we’d share how we went about it.

We decided to use a basket and started playing around with some containers..

And a few leaves from the yard (fatsia)

Then we collected a few cheeses, crackers and condiments…

For this display, we used in the way of cheese:

Saint Angel, an aged Gouda (we prefer 5 year but they only had 3 year and it was delicious nonetheless), a good Parmesan, and and a blue cheese (Bleu d’Auvergne here which is similar to Roquefort).

We always place our cheeses first, it is easy to build off and fill in from there. We then started adding the crackers, breads and fruits.

We used sliced baguette, Alessi breadsticks, Blue Diamond nut thins (we like the pecan) Mary’s Gone crackers (addicting…just sayin’) in black pepper, La Panzanella Rosemary crackers, Raincoast crisps hazelnut and cranberry. We also added grapes, cashews and dried apricots.

Now it’s time to add a few more goodies..

We filled in with a couple of pears and some hydrangea from the yard, and them a little charcuterie in the form of  Soppressata, prosciutto, and Genoa salami.

We also added some honeycomb which was absolutely incredible and we will use from here on out. It was a hit!  Another taste thrill were the Pepedew peppers and they add a great pop of color.

Off to the party we go….

Ta da!!

Here is a smaller version we did for a tailgate at Ole Miss a few days later

No matter the occasion …a charcuterie platter is always a good idea!!

belles try their hand at painterly pumpkins

chinoiserie, decor, diy, enchanted home, fall, pumkins, Thanksgiving, the relished rooster

The season of gourds is upon us, and it seems everyone is getting more and more creative with that good ole pumpkin.  We happily hopped on the day train and came up with this:

 Via therarebelle

You might ask how we came up with something so ingenious. Well, the results were pretty good…and all ours…but we can’t take credit for the idea. We were cruising for some fall decorating ideas and stumbled across a few things on Pinterest that inspired us….

And then we happened upon these Chinoiserie Pumpkins !! Oh. My. Gawd.   You could have knocked us over with a feather!!

Just take a gander at this from Enchanted Home :

 Via enchanted home.com

And  this…

Via enchantedhome.com

And as we dug a little deeper, we came upon these from The Relished Roost

Via The Relished Roost

A nice bonus…we realized these incredible artists had these pretties available for purchase…and, with a little heads up, would even customize to a degree. So, of course, we tried to purchase a few for our fall table (bookshelves for the rest of the year!!). Alas…they were sold out.

Well, these belles are no quitters!  We decided this was the perfect time for us to try and get a little crafty ourselves.  So this is what we made with some acrylic paint, a few faux pumpkins, and some paint pens.  Don’t judge too harshly…but we do think they turned out alright for our first go at it….

Above pic is pencil sketching our design …

We decided to do a Paris Porcelain effect with a gold and white look ….

And then we put them on display…

So belles, Cinderella those pumpkins…they deserve to be the belles of the ball!!!

(And they don’t have a midnight curfew!)

belles chime in…a share and share alike friend-1-1

05 Friday Jun 2015

A good friend, Bebe…a belle pal from our college days…shared a great discovery which is very much in keeping with our love of cocktailing!

Via fancy.com

Wouldn’t these be a tremendous gift for anyone ? And we don’t mind saying they would be a great gift for yourself!  Order them at fancy.com .

Another belle suggested we try a great wine. She swears that every time she serves it up, people ask about it and love the smooth crisp flavor.  We obliged and tasted…who are we to argue??  The results are in and we agree…bring on the Vouvray!   Available locally at Northampton wines. Also online at wines.com.

So cool off with a sip or two…just sayin’

Now y’all are going to need to coat those bellies with something tasty while you sip away.  Our favorite Cajun belle Camille shared her secret to cooking all those étouffées and gumbos.

When you don’t have the time or inclination to make a roux from scratch,  Savoies’s is the answer to any chef or non-chef’s prayers. We tried it with our favorite gumbo recipe and it was the best version to date!!  Easily ordered at Amazon.  So do yourself a favor and order up some, y’all won’t regret it…just sayin’…

Keep  ’em coming belles!

not your everyday farmer…a little spring inspiration

amazon, books, garden club, James Farmer

IMG_2781The South is all about entertaining, eating and garden clubs…that’s just how we roll down here. We both belong to a great garden club with monthly meetings and at least two great parties each year…holla! But we have several dear friends who are members of what we call “the serious one”. So, when we were invited by the “serious” garden club to hear a wonderful speaker and have a delectable lunch, we didn’t hesitate to accept!

On the the date of the luncheon, we donned our finery (sometimes it’s nice to get out of the yoga pants and throw on some heels) and headed over to the Poinsett Club. Tables were adorned with the most beautiful spring arrangements, put together by the über-green-thumbed members. Lordy, these ladies are talented with a capital T! They even had a little pop-up shop featuring wonderful gardening tools, entertaining ideas and clever gift items. There were also three books available, written by the guest of honor, James Farmer. We barely got our hands on them! There were a couple of moments when we thought the fur might fly with the high demand. (Not from these belles, mind you…just sayin…). Luckily, we emerged with everything intact and autographed books in-hand. Time for some sustenance! IMG_2309 We sat down to a beautiful lunch that included Farmer’s pimento cheese (we posted the recipe here), his famous biscuits (one bite and y’all won’t need to ask why they’re famous) and a healthy serving of Mr. Farmer’s wit. We have attended quite a few of these “belles who lunch” affairs and have heard a good many speakers. James Farmer is, by far, the most engaging, entertaining, humorous and – most of all – inspiring of them all! We couldn’t wait to get home and prune a little from our yards (and the neighbors’)! We wanted to throw a dinner party immediately; and we could hardly get in the kitchen fast enough to make that pimento cheese…and we hadn’t even cracked open the books yet! Speaking of the books…we each came away with these two…IMG_2335His gardening book, A Time to Plant, was already sold out when we got there (at 11:32 am) so we are ordering from Amazon. You must order as well so you can find out about the May rule….or do you know it?? It was a pleasure to remind ourselves to bring the outdoors in, even in the smallest way; to rethink the art of entertaining as an opportunity to share and engage, not a chore or burden; to know that taking time in the kitchen brings tradition and creativity together…which then brings friends and family together.  IMG_2337Simple tasks bring great rewards, and sharing is everything! James Farmer is a true southern gentleman, and we can’t possibly thank our serious garden club friends enough for sharing him with us. But we’ll try by inviting them over for some ham biscuits, a cocktail or two, and camellia from the yard in a beautiful vase…all displayed on motha’s silvah of course!!

get your greens…a healthy party pleaser to ring in the New Year

artichoke, goop, kale, New Year's

Time to plan that New Year’s menu, belles…yes, more food!!! But, there’s no need to allow this occasion to dash our resolve to make a healthy start to 2015.

Spinach-Artichoke dip has been around for ages…and is still quite the party-pleaser. And with the added bonus of being 90% (our rough guess-timation) veggies, it has some powerful redeeming qualities.

But here’s a new twist from our friend Gwyn (not really)…posted on goop…

IMG_1992.JPG

It’s a Kale and Artichoke dip that sounds positively belle-icious!!

Think we’ll be giving this one a try. We encourage you to try it as well…remember, on New Year’s Day, greens mean “green” (aka: $$$) for the year ahead.

Wouldn’t want’cha to miss out on that, belles!!!!

champagne, Croghan's Jewel Box, flute, glass, Olive and Cocoa, One Kings Lane, Z Gallerie

We’ve spoken before about our love of bubbles…and we don’t mean the kind little children blow in the yard! We’re talkin’ champagne, prosecco, cava, sparkling wine…the delightful creations that tickle our noses and create a party-in-a-glass. Oh, what fun!!!

Well…speaking of glasses, there are some beauties out there that make the sipping even more fun…and über-stylish.

Here are some options…just in case you need to update your wares (or perhaps need an after-the-fact gift idea) before the countdown begins…

Loving this toasting set…

IMG_1905.JPG
From Z Gallerie, these are just a click away (and are under $40…a steal!)

Going a bit retro…

IMG_1907.JPG
These gold-rimmed, vintage beauties are available at One Kings Lane. Groovy!

And check out these “chic and sensible” flutes…

IMG_1908.JPG
From Olive and Cocoa, they double as super-stylish bud vases in the off-season. Brilliant!!

One last thing…because we like our bubbles chilled…

IMG_1906.JPG
Why not chill in style?? Available from Croghan’s Jewel Box (full disclosure…this is a shameless plug for a dear super-belle friend who does the most amazing job in the most amazing store in Charleston…and, yes, we might be a bit biased), this cooler will become a part of celebrations for years to come!

Santé!!
